Tom’s CardiffWorks Experience

Meet Tom, he came through Cardiff Works to find employment in a job he loves.

Tom signed up via the website and was then invited to a simple skills test in customer service, numeracy and literacy.

He says, “Staff were extremely welcoming in a relaxed environment. Within a matter of days, I had invitations to interviews for a number of roles across the Council.”

The first temporary role he secured was an administrative role within the waste management department.

“I became part of a fantastic business support team dealing with resident requests and complaints. The confidence I gained through this 6-month role allowed me to apply for a higher grade position in the Education Department and subsequently secure it. I have been able to utilise the professional contacts made in waste management in my current role, enhancing cross-department ties.”

Tom’s placement through Cardiff Works was perfect for him as he was welcomed into a new team and he eventually gained full-time, permanent employment with Cardiff Council.
