Martin’s CardiffWorks Experience
When Martin Kayongo was unsuccessful in securing the first role he applied for through Cardiff Works, he was motivated by a member of the recruitment team to try again and got a rewarding job that led to a few promotions.
After signing up with the agency Martin was required to complete a 3-part assessment. For him the assessments were straightforward and he didn’t need to wait long to do them, which reduced his anxiety. He was immediately invited for an interview with the Money Advice Team for a grade 3 position, but he was not successful. However, CardiffWorks did invite him for another opportunity of a grade 4 job interview with the Into Work department, which was successful and marked just the start of his career with Cardiff Council.
“I have been able to get promotions through multiple interviews. I am now employed with the Council as a grade 7 Assistant Coordinator.”
Martin has been able to use the Cardiff Works to recruit staff for the projects he coordinates so he knows the service from both sides as someone seeking work and someone recruiting new people.
“My career has blossomed because of Cardiff works. If the CardiffWorks official had not motivated me to try again I would not have applied for any other Council position through the normal channels.”
He has now recommended over 10 participants with 6 of them being successful in securing Council jobs.
